The Amulet of Kings can only be worn by a descendant of royalty.

The Amulet of Kings is among the rarest of jewelry in all of Tamriel. Created by Queen Alessia during the First Era, it holds the "Chim-el Adabal" or "Red Diamond" in it's center and is essentially a Soul Gem of Ayleid design.

For years after it's creation, it has been worn by many Emperors and Empresses and has become known as a "mark of the crown". It can only be worn by certain individuals who are said to have "the blood of dragons running through their veins"; although, it may only require that of a monarch or ruler to be worn; it is not certain.

In order for an heir to inherit the Amulet, he or she must participate in the lighting of the enchanted Dragonfires ceremony which takes place within the Temple of the One.
